Works in Accrington Town Centre have taken a further significant step forward as Hyndburn Borough Council announces their preferred contractor for the phase 2 fit-out works to the listed Market Hall and the iconic art deco style Burton Chambers.
Councillor Clare Pritchard, Portfolio Holder for Transformation and Town Centres said:
“The Council has now carried out an open and transparent procurement exercise to find a contractor to undertake the phase 2 fit-out works within both buildings, ready for opening in early Summer next year. Following a highly competitive tender process, in which several high-profile Northwest companies expressed interest, the Council is delighted to have confirmed Krol Corlett as their preferred contractor.
Krol Corlett, who have offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Preston, are very experienced in working on heritage buildings and fitting out for commercial activities. The Council will now work alongside Krol Corlett to conclude final contractual matters before signing contracts, with works due to start later this month.”
Krol Corlett’s work will follow on from the phase 1 enabling works completed earlier in the year, which included the demolition and strip-out, stonework preservation and repairs and cleaning the buildings’ facades. In addition, new glazed curtain walling and upper floor windows were installed to Burtons Chambers plus window and roof repairs were undertaken to the Market Hall, ensuring both buildings are fully watertight and enabling the final designs to be completed.
Daniel Tebay, Managing Director of Krol Corlett said:
“We are proud to have been appointed as the preferred bidder for this transformative regeneration project. Over the coming weeks, we look forward to working closely with the client and design team to finalise details and prepare for mobilisation.
This award highlights Krol Corlett’s extensive experience and proven expertise in the restoration of historic buildings. We take pride in our collaborative approach — working hand in hand with clients, conservation specialists and stakeholders — to sensitively bring heritage sites back to life. Projects such as Accrington Town Square demonstrate our commitment to preserving the past while delivering economic, social, and cultural benefits to the area for years to come.”
Councillor Clare Pritchard continued:
“Krol Corlette have successfully delivered projects in the Northwest such as Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammer School, The Florrie Community Centre (Liverpool), University of Liverpool, Islington Mill (Salford), Frazer House (Lancaster) and Fleetwood Community Hub. I look forward to their team starting work very shortly and for delivering high quality work to two key town centre buildings”.
