During February, our Accrington Town Square Delivery Partner, Morgan Sindall, has started some work on transforming Accrington Market Hall. The first steps involve hoarding and securing the external areas to enable part of the external pavllions to be safely removed.

The removal of the two pavilions on Peel Street will allow for the creation of additional car parking spaces once all the works have been completed – something that has been requested for some time. It will also mean you can see more of the heritage building, including what is believed to be the original entrance. The pavilion at the rear of the Market Hall (opposite the old Wilko store) will be retained, providing space for some casual market traders to continue to operate once all the works are completed.

As well as protecting and looking after the building, safety and minimising disruption are our top priorities and so a number of measures will be put in place.

Hoarding Installation: The robust hoarding we install will keep the project site safe and secure, and also act as a barrier for minimising dust and debris leaving the site.

Environmental Controls: Environmental control systems will be used to manage dust and noise levels and works will be planned to minimise impact on the surrounding areas where ever possible.

Construction Experts: Our skilled and experienced team will follow industry-best practices, dismantling the structures safely and efficiently, with a recycling target for the pavilions of 99% where possible.

The key activity taking place is the following:

  1. Fencing has been installed to identify the area to be hoarded.
  1. The hoarding will then be installed, painted and branded.
  1. Works to dismantle the pavilion in phases will then take place.

These works began on 19th Feb 2024 and works are expected to be completed by the end of March.
