Hyndburn Council Selects CBRE and Barker Proudlove To Lead Operator Search for Burtons Chambers Shared Workspace and Market Hall

In preparation for the next stages of the Levelling Up funded transformation of Accrington Town Square, CBRE, a leading global real estate services firm, and Barker Proudlove, the largest niche retail and leisure agency in the north of England, have been appointed to progress selection of operators for two of the key projects being delivered – the Market Hall and Burtons Chambers, which will be brought back into use as a shared workspace

Following the recent success in securing Levelling Up funding for the Accrington Town Square schemes, Burtons Chambers is set to undergo extensive refurbishment, breathing new life into this historic building. The project will reimagine the space as a multifunctional hub, providing flexible working spaces. A key focus will be on nurturing and supporting the growth of new businesses, SMEs and young enterprises within the community.

The Market Hall will also be refurbished and fitted out to create a vibrant and modern market hall, including a traditional retail area, a food and drink offer, and a high-quality indoor play area.

CBRE and Barker Proudlove’s appointment to lead the selection processes demonstrates a commitment to identify Operators who will deliver high quality environments that exceed market expectations. The selected operators will each be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the buildings. Their input into the ongoing design process will be invaluable in ensuring that the space aligns seamlessly with market demands, creating an inspiring and functional space.

Simon Ross, Associate Director at CBRE, said; “Our team of public sector procurement experts will lead bespoke processes for Burtons Chambers Shared Workspace and Market Hall to ensure the right mix of operators are selected for these transformational projects. The appointment continues our market-leading procurement work on projects of all sizes across the North, combined with our extensive experience advising Local Authorities on town centre regeneration projects.”

Tom Prescott, Director at Barker Proudlove, commentated “The Market Hall is a stunning building at the heart of Accrington town centre. We are excited to have been given the opportunity to work with Hyndburn Borough Council to deliver a new look modern market capable of re-anchoring the town centre.
